I’ve never really been one to have new year resolutions. I just always set my targets whatever time of the year and just work down that list.
Growing up, I always wondered why people waited till the beginning of a new year to suddenly hit refresh or edit or perhaps even delete.
However, as we’re in a new year, I can’t help but feel the need to get out a blank page – perhaps it’s because 2015 is the first time I truly had to put the needs of another before my own – when I had to be actually responsible for another being.
And as much as I absolutely LOVE being a mum, I need to be able to have a niche for myself – it is one of the reasons why I decided to start writing again this year. I’d like to use this opportunity to express my gratitude towards:
- my husband Mo’ for always supporting me and encouraging me especially when I’m in ‘self doubt mode’ (Here’s a hundred sloppy kisses for you lol);
- To my friend Taiwo – somehow we’ve found a way to be each other’s back bone in 2015- bouncing ideas of each other and encouraging one another;
- Also to my friend Amanda – you’ve shown me I don’t need to know someone for a million years for them to be true friends. You truly are a superstar and;
- I’d also like to say thank you to each and every one of you who take the time out to read – my parents, siblings, friends, colleagues and to the rest of you I don’t know around the globe – you all have given me a reason to want to express myself – so thank you!!!
Without further ado, here’s today’s poem – dedicated to new beginnings…
‘The freedom to choose is the art of what it means to be human; and a world without choice is worse than a world without pain. Worse yet would be a world populated by people who make the wrong choices without feeling any pain. Everybody has a right to choose what they want but we should make choices we can handle. – Unknown’
From far away, I see the days that are no more
I listen to my thoughts recalling my past
A childhood song brings me to simplicity
And I cry happy tears for those days are past
…
I think and sing to a life so fair
Fair – to be afraid of the deeds of the past?
Past – to hope for a better tomorrow?
Tomorrow – a world that never dies, but accommodates events
…
Every tomorrow, a new start
Another opportunity filled with hope
As long as dusk will always give way to dawn
Never relent in your reason to have a dream
…
The strongest of all warriors are time and patience
And even though good things come to those who wait
The best things come to those
Who don’t give up

It is never too late to start over… never think your dreams are small compared to others. I’ll leave you today with my favourite quote of this year, gotten from Quirky Young Mum – “Our paths in life are so different. That we crossed at some point doesn’t mean we’re all headed in the same direction.”
Wishing you all a happy new year!!!
