The freedom to choose is the art of what it means to be human….
I’ve held that quote close to me for over ten years. I can’t even remember where I first read it but it stuck. Time and time again, I forget but then it creeps up on me at the exact moment I need reassurance.
The freedom to choose is the art of what it means to be human….
The art
Is life supposed to be my blank canvas
Where I can create at will
Draw out my choices
Paint my mood in an array of colours
Until my masterpiece is revealed
Leaving people both in awe
And in confusion
As they try to decipher
The freedom to choose is the art of what it means to be human…
Freedom
Am I being bound by my own limitations
Enslaved by my fears
As they stay laughing
Highlighting my vulnerabilities
I hear my inner voice
Screaming
The freedom to choose is the art of what it means to be human…
Choice
Too many options
Too many paths
Where do they lead?
Where do I go?
Where do I start?
Your end may be my beginning
Can we walk together?
Can I go alone?
Questions
All unanswered
How bleak the journey seems
The freedom to choose is the art of what it means to be human…
Human
To be mortal
And fear death
For with death
Comes finality
Suddenly
There’s an end
Without a meaningful beginning
The freedom to choose is the art of what it means to be human…
Meaning
To put into context
The unexplainable
To see myself
As valuable
Thrusting myself
Trusting myself
Freeing myself
Feeding myself
The freedom to choose is the art of what it means to be human…
The choice of freedom…
The freedom of choice…
