(A)ngels

I know the A to Z challenge ended yesterday but I’ve decided to start mine now because…. non-conformist LOL (I kid).

I don’t even know why I’ve decided to do this challenge, seeing as I failed woefully the last time I tried to challenge myself – but you can still check out the poems in that series here.

I guess I better warn you guys in advance that I may or may not finish this challenge… but I’ll try my best to keep putting up content regardless of whether I finish or not 🙂

I am no saint, I’m no angel… I’m just looking for an angel with a broken wing so we can heal together and fly away into the open heavens…

She sits there wondering
When the heavens will open
Her words roll out of her tongue
Conveying messages from within

Hallelujah?
Allahu Akbar?
May her ‘god’ be praised!

She sits there pondering
At the oddest hours
Of the darkest of nights
Displaying all her emotions

Hallelujah?
Allahu Akbar?
Will her angels come marching down?

She chants
Reciting verses which she was taught
Screaming for a messiah
Believing in a miracle

Hallelujah?
Allahu Akbar?
May her voice be heard up high!

She sings
Modulating between tones
Performing to an empty audience
With an award winning performance

Hallelujah?
Allahu Akbar?
Will her prayers be answered?

Her tears
They flow
As she genuflects
Her heart thumping

Hallelujah?
Allahu Akbar?
May her dark days be outlived!

Eventually
The days, they turn into months
All that time has passed
Night of prayer long forgotten

Hallelujah!
Allahu Akbar!
Sleeping angels awaken
Marching down from heaven
Calling her name

‘Come join us’ they say
Spread your little angel wings
And fly high
Shine!
Shine like the magnificent sun that is you…

Hallelujah!
Allahu Akbar!
Another angel is born
