Saying NO to writer’s block

It’s only the first month of the year and I’m already experiencing writer’s block… or perhaps it’s just because of the lack of time to write. Another part of me thinks that maybe…just maybe it’s because I’m finally going back to work after about eight months (thank you maternity leave) and my mind is still trying to comprehend that LOL… whatever it is, I will just blame my recent lack of creativity on all three.

Last year, I started off by writing poems based on the different forms of poetry; and I found out that setting that goal for myself compelled me to always write – it sort of challenged my creative ability as a budding writer.

So far I’ve been able to write:

  1. an acrostic poem – read here;
  2. a sonnet – read here;
  3. an aubade – read here;
  4. a ghazal – read here and
  5. a serenade – read here.

Starting from today, I’m challenging myself to writing two new poems every week and I promise to post them up even when I feel they aren’t good enough as I can be a bit self critical.

Without boring you too much with ramblings from my inner mind, please enjoy today’s poem as I try to write a triolet.

“There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered – Nelson Mandela”

Bidding farewell for my hard days are gone

Scampering away from where time stood still

With increasing pain every new dawn

Bidding farewell for my hard days are gone

One day I awoke, deciding to move on

Free I became from all limitations

Bidding farewell for my hard days are gone

And staying positive with higher expectations

    Lovely poem, I can sense your personality from your piece, nice try, keep it up. For me, writing is just my way of reaching out to someone I might not ordinarily be able reach, writing has brought us together through blogging 101 and for me that is fulfilling, smiling. Like I said before nice try and congratulations on your baby.

  4. I swear I have a draft post about acrostic poems I began just this week! I’m not a poet, so my purpose was less about the poem itself and more about how happy I was to read one written by my son’s best friend. How fun to see this somewhere else in writing! Looks like you’re well in your way out of that block!
