Scars…

Hello everyone!!!!!!

It’s another beautiful week!!!! Can you tell that I’m excited?? Can you??

My birthday is coming up this week and I had a LOT of time to reflect this past weekend. I realised there’s so much going on that I’m not thankful for and a lot of other things that I just let get to me that I really should let go.

Thanks to the hubby for helping me put things in perspective.

Today’s post is in response to this daily prompt.

“Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars.”

― Kahlil Gibran

I watched her frail body

Laying there

Her every breath a struggle

The light in her eyes

Dim

…..

I’ve watched my ma for years, working, living, trying to keep us happy. I saw her but did’t really see her. When did she get old? How did I not see the wrinkles? and the tiredness in her soul?

…..

I watched her frail body

Counting the scars

Varicose veins

Bulging

Constantly

…..

Are you happy ma? I’m so sorry I didn’t take care of you.

…..

I watched her frail body

Touching her scars

The ones we caused

Stretch marks

Sagging breasts

…..

She never once complained when we didn’t call… She forgave without us asking… Prayed relentlessly for our success

…..

I watched her frail body

Creaking bones

Old yet strong

Gracefully aged

Despite the lines

…..

I wept uncontrollably…

“Don’t cry child.. don’t cry. My scars may throb with buried memories… they may be signs that I’ve been hurt, but they are also a sign that I’ve healed. I have lived my life and made my choices and I have had a happy life… and if I die today, I’ll die knowing I have given you and your siblings my strength…”

…..

I watched her frail body

As she drew her last breath

Her eyes lit up

And her lips formed a smile

I watched her frail body

Go limp and cold

As her soul

Lifted up

To high heavens

To her new home….
