Sometime last week, I watched my baby achieve another milestone. It made me immensely proud as a mum and I told every single person who cared to listen how proud of him I was. I guess mothers are always proud of their children.

Watching my child made me think of my mum (and my dad)- bringing up five of us! I imagined them having the same feeling I experienced.

Part of why I write is so I can document certain feelings and moods and I really hope my child gets to enjoy this blog when he’s older.

Today’s post is what I imagine my mum would have written about me if she was into poetry. I’ve also managed to make one part of the poem a rondeau and the other part a tanka.

” On this one long, blessed night we refused to worry, allowing only hopes and dreams for the future of the human race, held in the minuscule hands of these newborns.

Veins popping with every strain
Panting… pushing
My fingers digging into the cushion
Trying to ignore every stain
Thinking of the end gain
Trying my hardest not to complain
As I await my gift at the end of the footing
I remember
You being as sweet as a candy cane
You were never plain
Always blushing
Your emotions gushing
As you explored everything in your domain
I remember

Nineteen eight nine
A year so memorable
It filled us with love
Moments forever cherished
As you’ve grown – a fine woman
