Lonesome Pathways

I’m into the third week of the Blogging 101 course and I’m having mixed feelings. It’s been very challenging keeping up with daily tasks, but I’ve somehow managed to get every assignment done despite my schedule.

Today’s assignment focuses on Daily Prompts. I remember telling you in a previous post (read here) about a book I downloaded titled 365 days of Daily Prompts. As my course leader stated in today’s class

“Writing prompts can be a blogger’s best friend: when inspiration is low and fresh ideas few, responding to someone else’s question can do get you out of a slump.”

Today’s post is inspired by today’s daily prompt from wordpress.

“Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear and not the absence of fear

– Mark Twain”

Everyday
I sit in this swing
Staring
Watching
Waiting

I see everything
The elderly man taking his time
The woman pushing her stroller
The business man with his briefcase
The little children running helter skelter

I see it all
Red sneakers
Brown brogues
Black plimsolls
White flip flops

In my mind
I imagine
I compose
I tell a story
With their footprints

The one heading to work
The one who’s late for a meeting
The one who’s going shopping
The one who’s going for the evening stroll
The one who’s free

Despite them all being different
They are all the same
They all walk the same path
Stepping
Almost in each other’s footsteps

They think they’re unique
Little do they know
I see
I observe
I know they are all the same

They all seem focused
Minding their own
But if only
If only they looked down
They would see what I see

There are two paths
There always have been
But they never notice
They follow each other
Blinded by fear

One day
I realised as I sat here
Judging them
Silently judging them
That I am very much like they are

I may not have travelled their path
I may not have walked in their shoes
We may never have the same destination
But here I was
In my swing…silently judging

Today…
Today I walk
Not in their path
Not in their route
I explore the path less travelled

I discover
The good pleasures of life
Happiness
Contentment
Things we all desire

Just hanging there
Like tree branches
Joy
Waiting to be plucked
Like fruits

I stood there
Amazed
Bewildered
Confused
Wondering… why this path was less travelled

Then I hear
That voice
‘Welcome… welcome you brave one’
‘Very few dare to walk this path’
‘I applaud you – for taking this path… this one less travelled’
———-

Sometimes we fall into a routine of doing the same things over and over, and we miss opportunities that could have been. We forget the things we are capable of handling. Every once in a while, take a step back and view your life from the outside to be sure you still like what you see… and if you don’t – never be afraid to go down that path, even if it’s the one less travelled 🙂

  2. A lovely poem Amina 🙂 Makes me realize that we are in control of our own lives and that it is good to step out of your comfort zone and get out of our stressful routines. Have a wonderful day!

Well done! I enjoyed the poem and really enjoyed the advice at the end. I know I have been guilty of doing the same things over and over and missing opportunities.

    1. We’re all guilty. Everyone gets comfortable… So don’t be afraid to try something new 🙂

Great approach to this assignment, really enjoyed this post and your comments at the end. I agree that self-reflection is so important, to make us proud of how far we’ve come and to inform our future decisions. As I get older I seem to have the mindset that if you want to do something you just have to do it. The fear of regretting not doing something far outweighs the fear of failure 🙂

    1. I totally agree. Half the time we end up regretting that thing we pushed aside. If you have something to do, just do it and out your all into it so you don’t fail 🙂
